Polish Proverbs: April - Kwiecień

learnpolishwithada:

Kwiecień – plecień, bo przeplata, trochę zimy, trochę lata.

April - “plaiter”*, ‘cause he plaits, a little bit of winter, a little bit of summer.

* I made up that word - “the one who plaits” :)

Kiedy w kwietniu słonko grzeje, wtedy chłop nie zubożeje.

When in april sun shines, then a peasant won’t grow poor.

Kwiecień ciepły, mokry maj, będzie żyto jako gaj.

Warm April, wet May, will be rye high as grove.

Kwiecień co deszczem rosi, wiele owoców przynosi.

April that dews with rain, brings a lot of fruits.

Kwiecień gdy deszczem plecie, maj ustroi w kwiecie.

April that plaits with rain, will adorn May with flowers.

Śnieg kwietniowy – trawie i koniowi zdrowy.

April’s snow - healthy for grass and horse.

Choć i w kwietniu słonko grzeje, nieraz pole śnieg zawieje.

Though in April sun shines, sometimes snow blows into fields.

As I proof it sometimes snows - I took those photos exactly 3 years ago in April in Warsaw!
